End Racism Sunday – Prayers of the People

O God, you made us in your own image and redeemed us through Jesus your Son. Look with compassion on the whole human family; take away the arrogance and hatred that infect our hearts; break down the walls that separate us; unites us in bonds of love; and, through our struggle and confusion, work to accomplish your purposes on earth; so that, in your good time, every people and nation may serve you in harmony around your heavenly throne. Guide our leaders, Barak our president, Dannel our governor and Steve our selectman in the ways of justice and truth.

Lord in your mercy
Hear our prayer.
Out of the darkness we cry to you, O God. Enable us to find in Christ the faith to trust your care even in the midst of pain. Assure us that we do not walk alone through the valley of the shadow of death, but that your light is leading us into life. Let your light shine on those serving in our armed forces…

Lord in your mercy
Hear our prayer.
O God, where hearts are fearful and constricted, grant courage and hope. Where anxiety is infectious and widening, grant peace and reassurance. Where impossibilities close every door and window, grant imagination and resistance. Where distrust twists our thinking, grant healing and illumination. Where spirits are daunted and weakened, grant soaring wings and strengthened dreams. We pray for those in any need or trouble…

Lord in your mercy
Hear our prayer.
O God, call us into a deeper relationship to be your church for the sake of the world. Help us to see with new eyes the injustices within church and society. Call us to have a loving heart that respects and uplifts the humanity and dignity of every person; open our ears to listen to and learn from the experiences of people of color. Open our mouths to speak up and about injustices. Join us with others to work for racial equity and inclusion for all people. Guide Katharine our Presiding Bishop, Michael our Presiding Bishop-elect, Ian and Laura our bishops and all the people of God.

Lord in your mercy
Hear our prayer
O God, you have so linked our lives one with another that all we do affects, for good or ill, all other lives: So guide us in the work we do, that we may do it not for self alone, but for the common good; and, as we seek a proper return for our own labor, make us mindful of the rightful aspirations of other workers, and arouse our concern for those who are out of work. We lift up in prayer in our community…

Lord in your mercy
Hear our prayer
Help us, O Lord, to finish the good work here begun. Strengthen our efforts to blot out ignorance and prejudice, and to abolish poverty and crime. And hasten the day when all our people, with many voices in one united chorus, will glorify your holy Name. We pray for those whose course on earth has finished…

Lord in your mercy

Final Prayer: O Holy God, you love righteousness and hate iniquity: Strengthen, we pray, the hands of all who strive for justice and prosper every effort to root out arrogance, intolerance, and prejudice. Help us to eliminate all forms of discrimination, degradation, and oppression; through him who died at the oppressors' hands, Jesus Christ our Redeemer, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
